From the field: integrating mesh radios at the tactical edge

Field kit on table

Radios that look perfect on the bench rarely fail for the reasons you modeled first. In the field, cable strain relief, grounding paths, and how a ruck frame shadows an antenna matter more than a tenth of a dB in lab sensitivity.

Checklist before you ship kits

  • Label every power source with expected runtime at half and full duty cycle.
  • Carry a second means of time sync that does not assume cloud.
  • Photograph cable routing at install — it is your cheapest as-built.

We will expand this series with capture logs and spectrum screenshots in a follow-up post.
